Barns are a landmark of rural America - fast on their way to disappearing.

Along this rolling hillside of Barnard, Vermont sits this weathered red barn with white trim. Ellen and her family have a collection of horse, cattle and chickens. There are a few barns on the property where they also board horses and enjoy giving horse backing riding lessons. It is always fun to drive by and see who may be out in the field grazing.

Legend has it that this seaside Victorian house is haunted. In the late 1800‚s Celeste Eppes in an attempt to make her husband jealous, lied about his best friend having an interest in her. Her husband confronted him in the parlor of the house. He of course denied any wrongdoing, but was shot with a bullet through his heart. The truth came out during the trial and the town shunned Celeste. She died a few years later during childbirth. People say you can see her peering out through the windows.

This regal red and gray barn, belonging to the Stigall family graces the countryside in Indiana. It has been "home" to Cricket, their Appaloosa horse, along with other critters; Holsteins, brown jerseys, cats and some mice. Beth Stigall, who is also a quilter, says this of her barn, she still has a touch of dignity - reminds me of an old lady still adding a dab of rouge and perfume!
